Local Business Website: Attract More Customers

A local business website has a different job than a national brand site. Your goal isn't global reach — it's showing up when someone in your city searches for what you offer, and then converting that local searcher into a walk-in, call, or booking.

Optimize Your Google Business Profile

Your Google Business Profile is not optional — it's essential. It's what shows in the map pack (the top 3 local results). Keep it updated with:

  • Accurate opening hours (update for holidays)
  • Recent photos (at least 5, updated quarterly)
  • Complete service list with descriptions
  • Respond to every review (positive and negative)
  • Post weekly updates or offers
  • A well-optimized Google Business Profile can generate more local traffic than your website alone.

    Local Keywords on Your Homepage

Don't just say "best plumber." Say "best plumber in Lyon 3rd arrondissement." Include your city, neighborhood, and key service areas naturally in your:

  • Page title and H1
  • Meta description
  • First paragraph of body text
  • Alt text of images
  • Think about how a local searcher would phrase their query: "dentist near Montparnasse", "Italian restaurant Bordeaux city center". Write for how people actually search.

    Make Contact Information Visible

Your phone number, address, and hours should be visible on every page — typically in the header or footer. Don't make locals hunt for your phone number. Click-to-call on mobile is essential: make your phone number a "tel:" link.

    Google Reviews Strategy

93% of consumers read reviews before visiting a local business. Ask every satisfied customer for a Google review. A simple message after service: "If you're happy, leaving us a Google review takes 2 minutes and helps us a lot." Reviews with responses convert better than reviews without.

    LocalBusiness Schema Markup

Add LocalBusiness JSON-LD schema to your homepage. It tells Google explicitly: your business name, address, phone, opening hours, geo coordinates, and service area. This improves your chances of appearing in the map pack and rich results.

    Mobile-First is Non-Negotiable

Local searches are overwhelmingly mobile. Someone searching "coffee near me" is on their phone, probably walking. Your site must load in under 3 seconds on mobile and have a tap-to-call button above the fold.
